MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT NANCY WANG
Greetings RECA members,
This winter has been a turning point for RECA. Not only have we had our biggest ever
series of Lunar New Year Celebrations, we also lost one of our most important members, my
husband, RECA board member and building committee chair, Joe Wang. Joe was, more
than
we ever realized, the true foundation of RECA. Without him we would not be who we are
today. Joe’s official title on our RECA board was Building Chair. In addition to taking care of
the physical wellbeing of our Center from emptying rat traps to
arranging for maintenance and
repairs, he worked endlessly with coordinating our insurance, being sure we were always in
compliance with legal requirements, and many other details that no one ever thinks about as we
enjoy the benefits of his quiet expertis
e. The passing of Joe is a great loss to RECA, the Wang
Family and to me. It will take many of our members, each taking part of what he did, to have
RECA continue as the beneficial organization we have enjoyed for the past 37 years.
I welcome Reed Walker to our RECA Board. Reed is married Jean Walker, Joe’s and my
daughter.
Reed has been in the background of RECA, helping in many ways as adviser, spur-of
-
the
-moment driver, equipment repairer and mover, and hundreds of miscellaneous things were
needed
right now but no one else could do it immediately
. Reed has agreed to become a formal
member of RECA Board of Directors. Officially, he is an assistant to the treasurer
and has been
appointed as building chair
. As a board member, he will take a more active role and receive
more
recognition for the many behind-the-scenes jobs he has been doing.
There are so many things to say about the past few months of RECA, but I am unable to
discuss everything yet. I thank everyone who has stepped in to help and who ha
s given their
condolences to me and my family. Thank you all for helping during this difficult time.

Joe Wang in Hawaii
a favorite vacation spot with his family
JOE WANG
By Judy Cheung, RECA Recording Secretary
Joe Wang, 1938-2025, left a legacy of love for his
family and RECA. After retiring from being an
import/export businessman, Joe spent his time actively
enjoying his family, frequently traveling the world or
vacationing in Hawaii with all 14 family members of three
generations, and sometimes a few additional family or
friends. The rest of his time he spent behind the scenes of
RECA quietly monitoring, filling out paperwork,
attending meetings with lawyers, bankers, insurance
representatives, maintenance people and repair workers,
or being Santa for the RECA Christmas Parties and the
Emperor or God of Good Fortune for Chinese New Year
programs.
Joe never sought the spotlight, but was always there
quietly doing the required, detailed work that no one else
wanted, or could, do.
Where could you find Joe during an RECA event?
Smiling quietly in a group, as he watched over everyone
enjoying being together in friendship. Joe leaves RECA
his legacy of love.

Joe is a perfect husband, a kind father, and a gentle and loving grandfather. He has been diligent and hard-working since
he was young. Starting from nothing, he made a successful career. His contribution to the Redwood Empire Chinese
Association and the community is his great achievement.
I have been married to him for 54 years. I am deeply grateful to God for making me his wife. All the way, we have been
together with his wholehearted love and care.
Thanks for your hard work, Joe. Your homework in the world has been successfully completed. Although I am very
reluctant, I can only say thank you, thank you, and hope you have a good journey. We will always love you and miss you.
